Why Pelvic Health?
Our pelvis is home to many important aspects of our body. It houses our bladder, rectum, and reproductive organs such as the uterus, ovaries, prostate, and testes. Of course, our genitals are also housed here.
The pelvis is the foundation of our core. This is where we move forward into life, and also create life. Many common issues can be traced to and from this area, and my job is to help find those root causes. Sometimes, the symptoms begin here, but are coming from elsewhere (such as the spine). And other times, symptoms elsewhere in the body are stemming from the pelvic region.
My job as a pelvic floor physiotherapist, is to assess and treat dysfunction that arises from the container (joints and ligaments), the nervous system, and the muscles.

I absolutely loved my experience and all my sessions with Christine. I was diagnosed with vaginismus and wanted to find a safe space to get help, without any judgement. Christine has been a wonderful therapist and educated me about it and patiently answered all my questions. I aways had great conversations with her! She helped me overcome vaginismus and made me feel confident and empowered. I'll always be grateful to her and would 100% recommend her! :)

What to expect at your pelvic health physiotherapy appointments:
-
We dive deep into your health history to discover what contributing factors in your life may be related to your pelvic health. I take a trauma informed approach, which means you may disclose trauma history if you wish, but you are not required to.
-
I assess joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves of the pelvis, spine, and legs, and elsewhere if needed. It an be surprising to many the role of the upper body in many pelvic health conditions!
-
Pelvic health appointments usually include an internal assessment, meaning vaginal and/or rectal exam. I do not use a speculum, and only one or two gloved fingers with lubrication.
You are never required to be assessed internally, although it is often helpful. Many people choose to be assessed at a future appointment.
-
Treatment varies depending on what the condition is and what we find during assessment. Treatment is always individualized within a broader set of protocols. You can usually expect education, lifestyle management practices, manual therapy, and exercises.
-
All assessments and treatments are based on your consent and I will check in throughout all stages of the appointment.
Ps. Learning to say no even in medical appointments is an important skill. You get o be a part of the decision making process every step of the way.
